    Scary Faces

    I took a trip down memory lane this week, and was remembering how my brothers and I used to scare the livin’ daylights out of each other just for fun. On one occasion at our country home in Saxapahaw, NC, I was really enjoying my new Halloween mask, and a few days after Halloween, decided […]

    Sweet Freedom of Being

    Chained to my pedestal
    I sing songs of mournful glee.
    The mysterious promise grates
    Against the idol image…
    “Remember not the former things.
    I am doing a new thing –
    Perceive it not?”

    In confusion, terror, and angry fear
    I wind my comfortable chains
    Around the habits of destruction….

    Ahh!
    Rescue and redemption mine
    As Beloved King rides
    from the North to deliver me.
    “You are […]

    “Lord, Open Thou My Heart to Hear”

    1. Lord, open Thou my heart to hear
    And through Thy Word to me draw near;
    Let me Thy Word e’er pure retain,
    Let me Thy child and heir remain.
    2. Thy Word doth deeply move the heart,
    Thy Word doth perfect health impart,
    Thy Word my soul with joy doth bless,
    Thy Word brings peace and happiness.
    3. To God, the Father, […]

    My Pirate Name is…

    …. Captain Sam Kidd
    “Even though there’s no legal rank on a pirate ship, everyone recognizes you’re the one in charge. Even though you’re not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate.    Arr!”

    The King

    The King beneath the mountains, The King of carven stone,
    The lord of silver fountains,
    Shall come into his own!
    His crown shall be upholden,
    His harp shall be restrung,
    His halls shall echo golden,
    To songs of yore re-sung.
    The woods shall wave on mountains,
    And grass beneath the sun;
    His wealth shall flow in fountains,
    And the rivers golden run.
    The streams shall run […]

    We Never Know

    We never know how high we are
    Till we are called to rise;
    And then, if we are true to plan,
    Our statures touch the skies.
    The heroism we recite
    Would be a daily thing,
    Did not ourselves the cubits warp
    For fear to be a king.

    Kings and Priests

    With thee on board, each sailor is a king
    Nor I mere captain of my vessel then,
    But heir of earth and heaven, eternal child;
    Daring all truth, nor fearing anything;
    Mighty in love, the servant of all men;
    Resenting nothing, taking rage and blare
    Into the Godlike silence of a loving care.
    From Diary of an Old Soul, by George McDonald, […]
